Today being Sunday, I thought I'd write about church. What a joy and a privilege to assemble with others who believe in the same Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! I feel that I have my 'reset' button pushed when I'm in church. I am reminded of what is really important. Often times the things that are really important don't scream at us like those things that are 'urgent'. Church is another home for me, a shelter from the world. I feel the need to separate myself from all the drama and just focus on God.
The pastor in his sermon today mentioned that in Paul's day there was a heavily polytheistic culture. They had a god for everything. Say you were going to war you would bring an offering to Mars in order to be victorious. These 'gods', however, acted just like the humans who created them. Why would you want a god who acts just like humanity? Aren't gods supposed to be above human beings and behave better than humans? As for me, I want an all-knowing, all powerful God who knows everything about my life and loves me anyway! I want a God who is invested in me and has a plan for me. He sees how miserable I am at work and He's taking care of it. In the meantime He is helping me to persevere while I wait upon Him. I want to be a vital part of His church and spreading the Gospel, and I can't do that if I'm unhappy, so I need to rely on His grace day by day. So there's your joy for the day.
