Some days I come to this blog with an idea of what I'm going to write. Today is not one of those days. I am trying to challenge myself to do this on a daily basis so it becomes habit. Maybe that's my joy for the day--taking on new challenges. The joy is not readily apparent but it goes back to setting goals. Or in other words, 'no pain, no gain'. Sometimes there is no happiness while working towards a goal, but when it's all done, the feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction is much greater than a fleeting feeling of happiness.
One thing I've realized is that my brain gets bored easily, so I need to keep learning. I think God probably intended it that way. You stop learning, you stagnate. I don't want to be stagnant. I want to keep growing. This might be why I prefer challenging reading, why I've got a lot of history books in my library, why I started reading War and Peace on my honeymoon. (Nerd alert!) Actually if you take your time War and Peace is not that difficult--just long with a lot of characters to keep track of. I often think school kids studying history would be much better off reading David McCullough's John Adams and 1776 for studying the Revolutionary War rather than the dry old textbooks. He writes about those subjects in almost novel style so it makes the principle players seem more human. So if anybody needs recommended reading, that's why I recommend.
