I read in the paper this morning that scientists have discovered the "God particle". Apparently it's the last piece of the puzzle they needed to complete the physics version of the periodic table. The Higgs particle apparently is the particle that holds everything together, gives it mass. My first thought was it took them all this time to find something that all Christians knew all along? That God holds everything together? (That's not what they're arguing of course. They don't even like the term "God" particle because they refuse to believe in Him.) Many people put their faith in science, arguing that it's based on reason, on facts. I say, it's all good and fine, but science, and facts, change. A couple hundred years ago, men thought that diseases such as the plague were caused by bad air. They did not realize that there were such things as germs. They also believed that the sun revolved around us. There are many more examples of this, but this goes to show that putting one's faith in science is building one's house on sand. However, if we build our lives upon Christ, "It is like a person who builds a house on a strong foundation laid upon the underlying rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against the house, it stands firm because it is well built." (Luke 6:48, NLT)
I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd rather have my house (a metaphor for life here), stand firm. I'd rather not find out at the end of my life that I'd based my life around lies. What does this have to do with joy, you ask? Everything! I want to live the right way now, and have my house stand firm, than to live foolishly and regret it later.
So thank you scientists, for finding out what the rest of us have known all along!
