Isaiah 9:6

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. And the government will rest on His shoulders. These will be his royal titles: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6, NLT)
George Frederick Handel wrote his oratorio Messiah based on the book of Isaiah. Every time I read this passage, I can't help but start singing along inwardly. I love that piece, although I have one quibble with orchestras who perform it: they always perform it around Christmas instead of Easter. The Hallelujah chorus actually refers to Christ's resurrection, not His birth. The other thing is that the phrasing in the Messiah is a bit awkward for singers, because Handel did not speak English, so when he wrote it he wasn't aware of how to split words up in a way that would be natural way for English speakers. But these are small complaints. The fact remains is that Messiah is one of the greatest works of music ever written...I hate to admit that I like it better than some hymns. It just gives a good picture of the majesty of God and His Son. It's a joy to sing direct phrases from the King James version of the Bible. King George was so moved by the Hallelujah Chorus that he stood, and everyone else stood with him (as was done whenever the king stood.)
