I've been reading the book of Isaiah lately, and I've been struck by the fact that there are prophecies of destruction interwoven with promises of God's redemption throughout the whole book. In chapter 30, for instance, "Destruction is certain for my rebellious children, says the Lord. You make plans that are contrary to my will. You weave a web of plans that are not from my Spirit, thus piling up your sins." (Is. 30:1). But a little further down, at verse 20, Isaiah says,"Though the Lord gave you adversity for food and affliction for drink, He will still be with you to teach you. You will see your teacher with your own eyes, and you will hear a voice say, 'This is the way; turn around and walk here.'" (Is. 20-21)
The joy to be found here is the reminder that even though we have trouble, He is still with us. He is still teaching us, if we are willing to listen. After all, "..the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for Him to help them." (Is. 30:18). I'm trying to wait patiently for Him to tell me what He'd have me do for a living. Even though my work schedule has gotten better, I know that I don't want to do what I'm doing for the rest of my life, but I'm learning to be patient. His timing is always best, amen!
