Chicken soup

Yup, I've got a cold. I started off not feeling so good at work, and it went downhill from there. By the end of the night, I felt lousy. My nose wouldn't stop running, and my throat was hurting. Found out from my boss that there's been a cold going around the store, so it must be my turn to get it. Thank goodness for chicken soup when you're sick! I came home and had a bowl and the broth seemed to loosen the congestion in my chest. There's a very good reason why Mom would make chicken noodle soup for me as a kid when I had a cold. Sometimes the old fashioned remedies do work.

Thinking a little further along, I'm thinking about Christ as our spiritual "chicken soup". He is the cure for all our spiritual ailments. Romans 3:23-25 says:
For all have sinned; all fall short of God's glorious standard. Yet now God in His gracious kindness declares us not guilty. He has done this through Christ Jesus, who has freed us by taking away our sins. For God sent Jesus to take the punishment for our sins and to satisfy God's anger against us. We are made right with God when we believe that Jesus shed His blood, sacrificing His life for us. God was being entirely fair and just when He did not punish those who sinned in former times.
So we brought out spiritual sickness on ourselves when we sinned, and God provided the home remedy. Christ is our chicken soup, clearing out the spiritual congestion in our lives and restoring us to life. Praise God! And just as having a cold is no fun at all, spiritual sickness is no fun either. I'm going to try to make good use of God's chicken soup. There's the joy for the day.
