I read in the paper today that Bartolo Colon, a pitcher for the Oakland A's, has been suspended for 50 games by Major League Baseball for violating the drug policy. This comes on the heels of Melky Cabrera's suspension for the same thing. I don't understand why players think they can still get away with it. They know they're going to be tested...why take the risk? It just puzzles me to no end.
I then read from 1 Kings today about Solomon and the two women arguing over a baby. One of the women's sons had died, and the other was still living. Solomon's solution was this: "Let's get the facts straight. Both of you claim the living child is yours, and each says that the dead child belongs to the other. All right, bring me a sword.' So a sword was brought to the king. Then he said, 'Cut the living child in two and give half to each of these women!' Then the woman who really was the mother of the living child, and who loved him very much, cried out,'Oh no, my lord! Give her the child-please do not kill him!' But the other woman said, "All right, he will be neither yours nor mine; divide him between us!" Then the king said,'Do not kill him, but give the baby to the woman who wants him to live, for she is his mother!" (1 Kings 3:23-27) I don't understand what kind of woman would be so callous as to ask to divide a baby in half just to keep the child from the true mother! Maybe there's a cultural thing involved that I don't understand, but wow! Then again, things were different, and in some ways I'm glad I live in this day and age of human rights, where people don't go out to witness executions anymore. On the other hand, unborn children have no rights...whether they live or not depends on the whim of the mother, I don't understand that thinking, either.
