I'm Sarah MacConney, and I approved this message

Anybody else feel like hitting the mute button when the political ads come on these days? Political fights have been going on for a long time, centuries even, but it seems worse nowadays. Nobody actually says what they'll do once elected, they just pick on their opponent. What scares me is that these tactics seem to work. On one hand, you have the Democrats who seem to think that government spending is the solution to every problem the country faces, and they vilify those who are wealthy, regardless of how they made their fortune. To me, it seems unfair to take 35% of a person's earnings if they made their money doing useful things. Think Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, for example. However, those who made their money trading in bad mortgages and taking advantage of the poor should be subject to much higher taxes. It just doesn't seem fair to say the wealthy in general should have to pay more, without regard to how the wealthy made their money.
The Republicans, on the other hand, don't seem to care about the so called 47% who don't pay income taxes. I think that figure is a lot lower, and I think Mitt Romney's statement on that is going to cost him the election. Not very smart. You can't disregard almost half the population of the country and expect to win votes. I didn't mean for this blog to turn political, but oh, I cannot wait until the election is over.

I wish our leaders would learn this: "Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in understanding." (Proverbs 9:10) Are there any leaders who are willing to find wisdom and act by it? A true leader would not put out attack ads. A true leader would show compassion for the people, but not allow people to become dependent on the government. It's not the government's place to provide cradle to grave care. After all, "A wise youth works hard all summer; a youth who sleeps away the hour of opportunity brings shame." (Proverbs 10:5). I understand that many people actually do need these government programs to help them get by, but we'd be doing them a bigger favor by allowing companies to hire and pay people a livable wage.
