The Art of Mindful Living
We discussed in Sunday School and church today about intentional living. Keeping God in mind every minute throughout our day and making sure to honor Him in everything we do. We learned about Jewish traditions on the Sabbath, and all the preparation and work that goes into the Sabbath. From sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday, they can't do anything that is construed as work, because God specifically commanded the Israelites not to work on the Sabbath. God worked six days, and rested on the seventh. The reason is not just for rest from physical labor, but rest from the world, to be mindful of what God has done for us, and to enjoy Him. I couldn't help but wonder if brushing one's teeth would be construed as work. It's great that they take the time to remember God and to be mindful of Him. However, as Christians we don't need to go quite to that extent. It is good to take time to rest. I find it is hard to be mindful of how I'm living if I'm overtired. I'm not reasonable at all when I'm tired. God expects us to take care of ourselves.
