Don't forget to be still!

Had a really long day yesterday. I saw Mom and Dad off at the airport at 4:30 am, went home and back to bed, and then worked from 12 to about 9 last night, and then ran Andy into work. It's weeks like these that I feel I just need a moment to be still for five minutes. Psalm 46:10: "Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world." I have a note in my Bible that says "Be silent is a rebuke, a call to cease from personal efforts and submit to God. When we do, the Lord is with us, and God is our fortress." I'm not so sure that verse is a rebuke. It seems to me that it is a reminder that you can't possibly hear God's voice when you are running back and forth in the craziness of every day life. Our society places a lot of emphasis on having it all. Well, if you try to have it all you'll wind up with nothing, because your relationship with God will suffer. If you don't have God, you have nothing. Period. End of sentence. What I need to do is use my break times at work to meditate and listen for God's voice. I've been very busy at work this week, to the point I may have to lose some time to avoid overtime. It's just as well--personally, I don't really want to be at my place of employment any longer than I have to be. The job is very physically demanding, and working the long hours sometimes tires me out, both physically and spiritually. Thank God for His reminders.
