The Lord Will Answer

O Lord, I have so many enemies; so many are against me. So many are saying, "God will never rescue him!" But you, O Lord, are a shield around me; my glory, and the one who lifts my head high. I cried out to the Lord, and He answered me from His holy mountain. I lay down and slept. I woke up in safety, for the Lord was watching over me. I am not afraid of ten thousand enemies who surround me on every side. Arise, O Lord! Rescue me, my God! Slap all my enemies in the face! Shatter the teeth of the wicked! Victory comes from you, O Lord. May your blessings rest on your people. (Psalm 3:1-8
This was a psalm of David, written about the time David had to flee from his own son, Absalom. David had plenty of trouble in his life, but at least it wasn't boring! He certainly had a lot of family problems. When your own son is trying to kill you, that tends to qualify as a dysfunctional family. However, despite all his issues, he knew that his God was right there. He may have had ten thousand enemies around him, but he still went to sleep in peace!  He knew that his God was greater than his enemies, and there was a sense of peace and even joy there. May I be like David. When my problems seem bigger than me, I need to remember that God is greater than my problems, and that He is watching over me.
