The Best Monty Python Sketches....

This morning I read an article in The Atlantic that called Monty Python the "Beatles of comedy" but had one brief comparison to the band. I was ticked off. For one thing, George Harrison mortgaged his house to produce their movie "The Life of Brian" and that was not mentioned. For another, if you watch The Beatles' films, you can see where John Cleese and Graham Chapman and all the others may have gotten their inspiration. Maybe not consciously, but the references are there. Their sketch "Upper Class Twit of the year" reminds me of a spot in "A Hard Day's Night" where the Beatles escape a press conference through a fire escape and run around on a field...acting like "Upper class twits". If you watch "Help", that movie is very Monty Python-esque......I won't even go into Magical Mystery Tour.

Anyway, in this spirit, I will list some of my favorite Monty Python sketches.

"The Dead Parrot Sketch".  A disgruntled John Cleese tries to return a parrot who is obviously dead. "He's just resting". "Resting? He is obviously demise. He has ceased to be. This is an ex-parrot!" "You told me he was just fagged out after a long squawk"...obviously I'm paraphrasing here...but very, very funny.

"The Spanish Inquisition"..."No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!" showing up unexpectedly in middle class homes. A riot.

"Hell's Grannies."  A sketch about the senile delinquents.....also mentions the Baby snatchers and vicious gangs of 'Keep Left' signs.

"The Lumberjack Song."  "I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay, I sleep all night and I work all day."  Gotta love the reaction of the Canadian Mounties to the Lumberjack.....

The Upperclass Twit of the Year....These Upperclass men compete in events like "Waking the Neighbor" and etc. and the last event is for them to shoot themselves....I suppose this is not politically correct, but then again, nothing on Monty Python was politically correct.

I'll have to come up with more as I go, but these are some very funny sketches to start with.
