Who is this?

Seeing as how I haven't written a post for almost two weeks, I think it would behoove me to write one now. (Although I'm not sure why I would want to be behooved---I don't need hooves! Sorry.) A few things I've picked up over the last couple of weeks:

1. Friends are a good thing. Today an old friend of mine stopped by for a few minutes. I hadn't seen her in a long time, and though it was a brief visit, I was so happy to see her and get to chat. I felt the connection of face to face human interaction and realized again that social media can only go so far--it can never replace seeing someone in person, the exact sound of their voice (sound quality on Skype can be sketchy), and the feeling that a hug gives. I didn't realize how much I'd missed talking with a friend until today. I mean, I'm so glad I have my husband and I love talking to him and spending time with him, but sometimes it's good for a girl to have a female friend that she's not either a.) related to or b.) works with. It also made me realize how remiss I've been in keeping in touch with people.
2. I need to keep growing in my walk with God. "And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to live in obedience to Him. Let your roots grow down into Him and draw up nourishment from Him, so you will grow in faith, strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with thanksgiving for all He has done......we grow only as we get our nourishment from God. (Colossians 2:6-7, 19b).  In other words, I want to get off this milk I've been on and move to more solid food in the Christian faith. To do this I need to make sure I'm rooted in His word, that I know what it says and what it means, and that I lean on other members of the body to help me in my understanding. And I want to learn to teach and encourage new believers to the faith. Paul uses that expression in many of his letters...there's usually a teach followed by encourage, which implies that it's not just teaching them facts, but helping them to use what they've learned.
