God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out when you have faith that God is speaking through you. If your gift is that of serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, do a good job of teaching. If your gift is to encourage others, do it! If you have money, share it generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. (Romans 12:6-8)I've been thinking about gifts and how I fit into God's church. I think sometimes that we underestimate the gifts we have been given. I feel that if I'm not out in the world preaching, then I'm not using what God has given me, but I'm starting to feel that this isn't the right view. We can't all be Billy Graham, because God only made one Billy Graham. And if everyone is out preaching, than who is taking care of the flock? Who is ministering to the needs of His church, who is discipiling, who is teaching the people? There's a role for everyone, and no one's role is more important than anyone else's (besides Christ's, of course). I'm starting to realize that it may be that God has one person in my life for me to reach, and if I've done that than I've served just as much as one who has spread the word to millions. (I don't think it's just one person, but you get the idea.) So I have to accept that I am who God created me to be, and I cannot be anyone else. Sometimes I wished that I were athletic, but God wanted me to be musical, so there you have it. I've got my role to play there.
I also note that we're not supposed to be good at everything. God uses our weaknesses too.We, as a church, have to use our strengths and our weaknesses to learn to rely on one another.
