When things don't go as planned

Church was a little different today. Due to an emergency, the pastor left and we all had a time of sharing during church. I think it's good for things to be mixed up once in a while. It gets us out of our zone, keeps us from getting complacent, and helps us focus on God. Which after all is why we're in church in the first place! God is good all the time, and I felt His presence especially today.

Yesterday at work, I saw a group of campers exiting the airport. They were all wearing a Maine Sports Camp t-shirt, and on the back was this:

"John 3:16: For God so loved the world, that He gave..."   I'm still trying to figure out why they left the most important part of the verse off: "His only begotten Son, that whosoever should believe in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life."  Why, why, would you leave off the mention of Christ off that verse????  God so loved the world that He gave??? Gave what? I don't get why you wouldn't mention God's Son, who died to save us from Hell and oblivion. I was tempted to ask them, but it was late and I was technically at work, and they seemed in a hurry.  But I'm still puzzling over why some churches and Christian organizations feel the need to dilute the gospel message. If anything, we need to be even bolder with the message. A diluted message loses it's potency, and a watered-down Christianity might be palatable to the world, but if we become more like the world, we've failed God. Anyway, God is awesome, and I'm glad I don't have to try to save myself.
